"Thera-Claus Now On The Air"
For the 37th year, Dr. Ritchi Morris suited up as Santa Claus,
jumped into his sleigh( a "tricked out" one-of-a-kind
hot-rod PT Cruiser that he has built himself- see World Record
section elsewhere on this site) , and played his annual "gig" at
various veterans and/or Children’s' hospital cancer wards
in this area. Dr. Morris has also assisted with feed-ups at
Thanksgiving for as many years. The populations that he helps/attends
are veterans, homeless people, and/or children with cancers.
He has ALWAYS done this solely as a volunteer. He has NEVER
accepted a penny for his efforts predicated upon the same principles
as his works at trauma/disaster scenes such as the Oklahoma
City bombings, Columbine High School, 9/11 NYC, the Tsunami,
various hurricanes like David in Fla., and Katrina. Moreover,
in his daily practice he treats some patients on a "pro
bono" basis and, incredibly in today's world-he makes
home visits.
This year Thera-Claus took to the air waves also. Dr. Morris
stated that he decided to utilize this vehicle this year because
he's watched these programs burgeon over the 31 years to astronomical
proportions that make his personal appearances insufficient.
However, this is by far not the first time that Dr. Morris
has appeared on radio/T.V. Throughout the years he has been
a guest on numerous local, regional, national and even International
shows. Indeed, at one time or another he has appeared on every
major and/or cable station since the 1960s.
Throughout these decades Dr. Morris has also hosted his own
shows on radio and/or T.V.- even before there was cable or
an Internet. He co-founded station WDCV on his college campus
(as a rock-n-roll DJ) and then did military radio in the ESAEUR
sectors. His areas of interest have ranged from a Doo-Wopp
expertise to sports/fitness, nutrition, mind-body connections,
and in more recent years, mental health and Integrative Medicine
issues/techniques.
As Dr. Morris observes:" this isn't my first time at the
rodeo by any means. I grew up in a family of performing Gypsies
intending to be another Dick Clark or Elvis. The vicissitudes
of life have intervened at various times such that I've followed
in my family's footsteps but in my own unique way. Thera-Claus
is just another variation on a central theme within me that
has driven me to survive this many years against odds that
many stated would eliminate me. That theme or inspiration is
GIVING TO OTHERS LESS FORTUNATE THAN MYSELF. I witnessed this
in my role models who instilled their magnanimous, loving,
caring spirit in me along the troubled trail of my life- ho,
ho,ho".
